Jargon Music: A Molotov Cocktail
The Jargon Music upcoming mixtape,
"Too gifted to surrender",
functions or ought to function as a Molotov cocktail or petrol bomb
which sparks an eternal fire in the hearts of those that hate unfairness in the world,
especially the black world here at home and abroad.
From the poignant intro apt named Umzabalazo all the way to the last track, "Too gifted to surrender" pulls violently at the proverbial heartstrings. It, tackles thorny issues such as Africa's neo-colonial reality underpinned by white racism, missing fathers, music industry disillusionment, death and the state of blacks in South Africa, generally as well as black revolutionary politics! Jargon Music is made up of two equally gifted emcees hence the mixtape title. The emcees are Ncedisa Mpemnyama and Lukhanyo
Zondani affectionally called Nce and Frizz,
respectively by those close to them and the fan base they have been solidifying since their first performance in 2007.
Jargon Music describes "too gifted" as their "mindstate and perspective at the moment, this is how we view South Africa, Africa and the world in general right now." The mixtape differs from their "Times Have Changed" EP, released on 2009, in that the duo has shrugged off its naivety and is more mature, as a collective and as individuals as well. The two claim that they are the most lyrically gifted hip hop crew at the moment in Cape Town and arguably in South Africa! They also claim that "Times Have Changed" became an underground classic though it was not recorded properly and not marketed to their satisfaction-proving without any doubts that real people want real music. With the recent mixtape they hope to solidify and expand their ever growing fan base nationally. 2012 has been a rather enlightening year for the duo, and that of expansion and growth as well and in it they have managed to rope in a Jargon Music team to assist them administratively to make the necessary leap they need to reach national prominence. They have shared stages with, amongst other prominent artists, James Matthews, Ohayv, Driemanskap, Bonzaya, DSO, Kanyi, Ndlulamthi, Izithunywa Zohlanga, Eavesdrop, Crosby, Sugah and DAT mvc with them covering the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, leaving seven other provinces they plan to touch base should their financial support change, hopefully by the end of this year for 2013. They have just finished a song about the People's Manifesto; this song will be used by the September National Imbizo as it agitates for politicians and public servants to use public services. (See: www.septembernationalimbizo.org for more info) Ncedisa also has a monthly slot on Bush Radio's hip hop show, Headwarmaz, called Reader Radar where he reviews books and tries to inculcate a reading culture in the hip hop community and to also
show that reading can enhance writing skills,
conceptual abilities and enhance the subject matter of hip hop.
Jargon Music is not just another stereotypical hip hop group but a progressive black conscious state of mind, they purport that Steve Biko is their compass and lodestar.
